Fernando de Castilla Antique Palo Cortado
Red 14% ABV ABV Fernando de CastillaGood not great
Decent wine, well made for sure. Nice balance and the fruit comes through cleanly without being overpowering. But at £53.50 I've had bottles at half the price that excited me more. It's a bit too restrained for my taste — I like something with a bit more punch. Would still recommend trying it though.
Wow, what a find
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop wouldn't stop going on about it. He was right — it's seriously good. Complex and layered but not in a way that makes you feel like you need a degree to appreciate it. The finish just lingers and lingers. Worth every penny of the £53.
Absolute stunner
Saw this on a restaurant menu and took a chance on it. So glad I did. There's a real elegance to it — structured and complex but nothing feels out of place. The acidity keeps it fresh and the finish goes on forever. Already ordered a couple of bottles online.
Nice but steep price
Got this as a birthday present and I'm glad someone else paid for it honestly. It's lovely — really balanced with a nice acidity that keeps things interesting — but fifty-odd quid is a lot. I'd buy it again for a special occasion but not as a regular bottle.
Genuinely interesting
I'm still pretty new to exploring different wine styles but this Fernando de Castilla really stood out. It's got this clean, defined character that I could actually pick apart and enjoy without feeling lost. Not fruity in an obvious way, more like layers that keep unfolding. Really glad I tried it.
Perfect dinner party wine
Brought this to a friend's dinner party and it was a massive hit. Everyone kept commenting on how smooth it was for 14%. Really well put together, great with the roast lamb we had. The kind of bottle that makes you look like you know what you're doing.
