Fernando de Castilla Antique Amontillado
Red 14% ABV ABV Fernando de CastillaDecent, expected more though
Saw this recommended online and thought I'd give it a go. It's good — well made, balanced, pleasant enough finish. But for what I paid I was hoping to be blown away and it didn't quite get there for me. Maybe I need to give it another go with food.
Proper sherry, this one
Picked this up after the guy at the wine shop recommended it when I said I wanted something different for a dinner party. Absolutely loved it — so much depth and complexity, and it just kept getting better as the evening went on. At £47 it's not cheap but honestly felt worth it for a special occasion.
Really impressed
I'm not usually a sherry person but tried this at a tapas restaurant and had to track down a bottle. It's beautifully balanced, no harshness at all despite being a fortified wine. Sipped it slightly chilled with some almonds and manchego — perfect match.
Nice but a lot to spend on sherry
Got this as a birthday present and it's definitely good quality. Clean finish, interesting flavours that change as it opens up. But I'm not sure I'd buy it myself at nearly £47 — feels steep when you can get a solid amontillado for half that.
One of the best sherries I've had
I've been getting into sherry lately and this is a step above most of what I've tried. The nose is incredible — really focused and precise, none of that generic nuttiness you get with cheaper ones. Lingering finish that just quietly stays with you. Treat yourself.
Great after-dinner sipper
We cracked this open after Christmas dinner instead of the usual port and everyone was into it. Really smooth for 14%, you wouldn't guess the alcohol content at all. Will definitely be buying again next year.
