Emilio Hidalgo Marques de Rodil Palo Cortado
Red 14% ABV ABV Emilio HidalgoFinally tried a Palo Cortado
The guy at my local wine shop has been banging on about Palo Cortado for months so I finally caved. Really glad I did — it's got this lovely balance between dry and rich that I wasn't expecting. Loads of layers if you take your time with it.
Wow this is complex
I'm still fairly new to sherry but this blew me away. Every sip was slightly different — nutty one moment, then fruit, then this dry acidity cutting through. The finish is so clean and long. Genuinely impressive stuff.
Dinner party star
Served this as a pre-dinner drink at a dinner party and everyone was asking about it. That mix of nutty and rich flavours is really moreish. Goes down dangerously easy for 14% ABV. Will definitely be buying another bottle.
Decent sherry, not blown away
Saw this on a restaurant menu and ordered a glass. It's solid — well balanced and clearly well made. But at this price point I expected to be more wowed. Pleasant enough, good length on the finish, just didn't knock my socks off.
Special occasion wine
Bought this for my wife's 50th birthday dinner and it was a real hit. The nutty richness is gorgeous and it just kept opening up the longer it sat in the glass. At £70 it's not cheap but honestly felt worth it for a celebration.
Good but pricy
Bit steep at over £70 if I'm honest. It's a well-made sherry, nice acidity and the finish hangs around for ages, but I've had Palo Cortados at half the price that weren't far off. Would buy again on offer though.
Brilliant with cheese
Had this with a big cheese board after Sunday lunch and it was perfect. Nutty, clean, not too heavy. My dad who normally only drinks red Bordeaux actually asked what it was, so that says something.
