Emilio Hidalgo Gobernador Oloroso NV
Red 14% ABV ABV Emilio HidalgoGood but bit pricey for what it is
The wine shop guy talked me into this over a cheaper oloroso and honestly I'm not sure the extra money was worth it. It's nice enough — smooth, quite complex, decent finish. But at over £30 I expected to be blown away and I wasn't. Fine wine, just not amazing value.
Interesting change of pace
Saw this on a restaurant menu and figured I'd try something different. I don't drink much sherry but this was really balanced and easy to enjoy. Loads of layers to it if you pay attention. Looked up the price afterwards and it's reasonable for the quality — might grab a bottle for the house.
Birthday treat that delivered
Got this as a birthday present for myself because I've been getting into sherry lately. The nose is gorgeous, really warming and nutty without being overpowering. Only 14% as well so you can actually have a couple of glasses without it flooring you. Genuinely lovely stuff.
Solid choice for after dinner
Bought this for a dinner party and served it with some cheese and nuts at the end. Everyone kept going back to it which is always a good sign. Nice clean finish that doesn't hang around too long. Would buy again but probably as a treat rather than a regular thing.
Really impressive sherry
Picked this up after seeing it recommended on a forum and wow, it's proper stuff. Rich and warming but not heavy at all, which I wasn't expecting from an oloroso. At around £30 it's not cheap but you can tell this has been aged properly — there's loads going on in each sip.
