Egon Muller Le Gallais Wiltinger Braune Kupp Spatlese Riesling 2020
White 12% ABV ABV Egon MullerWorth every penny for a special night
Bought this for our anniversary dinner and wow. The balance between the sweetness and acidity is just spot on — it kept changing in the glass which made it really fun to drink. At £115 it's not an everyday bottle but for a celebration it absolutely delivered.
Stunning stuff from the Saar
The wine shop guy talked me into this over a Mosel bottle I was looking at and I'm glad he did. There's this beautiful tension between fruit and acidity where neither one wins, they just sort of dance together. Clean finish that lingers for ages. Had it with some Thai takeaway and it was incredible.
Really nice but I expected more magic
Got this as a birthday present and maybe my expectations were too high given the price tag. Don't get me wrong it's a cracking white — aromatic, well balanced, lovely long finish. I just thought at this level it would blow my mind and it was more like a very solid 'oh that's really nice' experience.
Opened this way too young apparently
Picked this up on a trip and drank it last weekend with friends. Even now it's delicious — layers of flavour that keep shifting around, super clean acidity, and it smells amazing straight out of the bottle. My friend who knows more about wine than me said it'll be even better in five years which is honestly hard to imagine because it's already great.
Lovely but hard to justify the price
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and decided to treat myself. It's a gorgeous Riesling — really precise and layered, proper depth to it. But £115 retail is steep and I've had Spatlese Rieslings at half the price that got me nearly as excited. Still, very good wine.
Best Riesling I've ever had
My mate who's really into German wines brought this round and I'm still thinking about it days later. So expressive on the nose, you could smell it from across the table. The finish just goes on and on. I get why Egon Muller has the reputation it does.
