Egon Muller Le Gallais Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Spatlese 2021
White 12% ABV ABV Egon MullerLovely wine, need to know what you're getting
So this is a Spatlese which means it's off-dry, just so nobody's surprised. The sweetness is really well balanced by the acidity though, nothing cloying about it. Clean finish that lingers forever. The wine shop guy pointed me to this and I'm glad he did.
Really good but hard to justify the price
Had this at a restaurant and it was gorgeous — beautifully balanced, long finish, proper depth to it. But £125 a bottle? I've had Saar Rieslings at half the price that got me 80% of the way there. Still, it's a treat if you can swing it.
Birthday splurge that delivered
Bought this for my 40th and honestly it was worth every penny of that £125. The acidity is electric — like biting into a green apple but way more refined. The finish just goes on and on, we were still talking about it the next morning.
Nice but I expected more for the money
Don't get me wrong this is a very good wine. Crisp, layered, lovely long finish. But at £125 I was expecting it to change my life and it didn't quite get there. Maybe I need to cellar it a few years and revisit. The 12% ABV is nice though, easy drinking without getting knocked sideways.
Best Riesling I've ever had
My wife's colleague recommended Egon Muller and wow. This is so precise and clean, every sip reveals something new. I know a tenner over a hundred quid is steep for a white wine but this is genuinely special stuff.
Opened up beautifully over dinner
Brought this to a dinner party and it was a massive hit. At first it was all citrus and mineral, then after 20 minutes in the glass it just kept evolving. Went brilliantly with the fish course and honestly even held up against the cheese.
