Drappier Clarevallis NV Champagne: Effervescent Excellence
Champagne 12% ABV ABV DrappierSolid champagne, bit steep though
Tried this at a friend's dinner party and liked it enough to track down a bottle myself. Nice toasted almond smell and it's got this chalky dry thing going on that I really enjoyed. Good but I'd probably reach for something around £40 for a regular weekend bottle.
Best champagne I've had in ages
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this and I'm so glad he did. The bubbles are super fine and it's got layers of flavour — lemony, pastry-like, a bit nutty. Had it with some fish and chips oddly enough and it was brilliant. Already ordered more.
Really nice but not sure I'd rebuy
Picked this up for New Year's Eve. It's definitely a step up from the usual prosecco we drink — more complex with that brioche and citrus blossom thing going on. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend works well together. Just not sure it's £59 nice for us when there's decent cava out there.
Converted me from prosecco
I always thought champagne was overrated until I tried this one. It's got this amazing green apple and lemon curd taste and the finish goes on forever with a sort of chalky bite. Had it with a cheese board on our anniversary and it was perfect. 12% ABV too so you can actually have a couple of glasses without falling over.
Birthday treat that delivered
My wife got me this for my 40th and wow, it's properly good. Really bready and toasty on the nose, then crisp apple and lemon flavours that keep it fresh. At nearly sixty quid it's not an everyday buy but for a celebration it's absolutely worth it.
