Dow's 2020 Late Bottled Vintage Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Dow'sBirthday treat that delivered
My wife got me this for my birthday and we cracked it open with some stilton. Gorgeous stuff. You can smell the quality straight away — really expressive nose. The layers keep coming as you sip it. Absolutely loved it.
Solid LBV, nothing flashy
Dow's have been making port forever and this is a reliable example. Nice dark fruit, decent depth, and it finishes clean without hanging around too long. Not the most exciting bottle I've ever had but I'd happily buy it again for after dinner.
Proper port for the money
Picked this up from Majestic on a whim and genuinely impressed. Really well balanced — the fruit is rich but it doesn't burn your throat like some ports at 20%. At under £17 this is going straight into my Christmas shopping rotation.
Great intro to port
I'm pretty new to port but saw this on a list of good ones to try. Really enjoyed it — it's strong at 20% but you don't really notice the alcohol, it just blends in. Had it with dark chocolate and it was brilliant. Will explore more Dow's now.
Decent weeknight port
Had this after a roast dinner and it did the job nicely. Not as complex as a vintage port obviously but at £17 you can't complain. Clean finish, doesn't outstay its welcome. Would be a safe bet for a dinner party if your guests like port.
Punches well above its price
Been drinking port for years and this is excellent value. The structure is seriously impressive for an LBV at this price point. Ripe fruit, proper acidity, and a finish that goes on and on. Bought two more bottles after the first one.
Good but not great
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something for a cheese board. It's fine — fruity and smooth enough — but for nearly £17 I expected a bit more wow factor. Perfectly drinkable though, just didn't blow me away.
