Dow's 2017 Vintage Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Dow'sChristmas cracker
Bought this for Christmas dinner and it absolutely stole the show. Rich and fruity but not syrupy sweet like some ports — there's a real grip to it that keeps you coming back. Everyone wanted to know what it was. At £103 it's not cheap but for a special occasion it's worth every penny.
Best port I've ever had
I'm not usually a port person but this completely changed my mind. So much going on — dark fruit, real complexity, and it's not cloying at all. The acidity keeps everything in check. Already ordered another bottle to put away for a few years.
Proper port for cheese night
Picked this up after seeing it recommended online and cracked it open with a big cheese board. It's firm and structured with enough sweetness to work with stilton but not so sweet it gets sickly. The kind of bottle where you keep pouring little bits because the finish pulls you back in.
Solid vintage port
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something serious for my dad's 60th. It's got loads of depth and the finish just goes on and on. Dad loved it, said it reminded him of ports he had years ago but better structured. Would buy again for a big birthday.
Very nice but pricey
Tried this at a friend's dinner party and yeah it's really good. Clean, well balanced, lovely long finish. But £103 is a lot for port when you can get perfectly decent ones for half that. I'd happily drink it again but probably wouldn't buy it myself.
Good but needs time maybe?
Had this with some friends who know way more about wine than me. They kept going on about how it'll be amazing in 10 years. Right now it's nice — lots of fruit and quite tannic — but honestly at this price I expected to be blown away immediately. Might just be that I need to be more patient with it.
