Douro Boys Anniversary Very Old Tawny Port
Fortified 20% ABV ABV Douro BoysIncredible but hard to justify the price
Tried this at a tasting event and it's genuinely stunning — concentrated, layered, beautifully balanced. But £575 is a LOT of money for a bottle of port, even one this good. I've had ports at half the price that got me 80% of the way there. If someone else is buying though, absolutely say yes.
Best port I've ever had, full stop
A mate brought this to a dinner party and none of us could stop talking about it. So smooth and balanced for 20% ABV — no burn at all, just this long graceful finish that hangs around forever. I've had a few old tawnies before but nothing that kept revealing new layers like this one did. Genuinely struggling to find a fault.
Special occasion wine and then some
Bought this for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary and wow, it did not disappoint. The complexity is unreal — every time I went back to my glass it tasted slightly different, picking up new dried fruit and spice notes. At £575 it's obviously not an everyday buy but for a once-in-a-lifetime moment it felt worth every penny. The finish just goes on and on.
Christmas treat that blew us away
Splashed out on this for Christmas Day dessert wine and it was the highlight of the whole meal. Really rich and expressive on the nose straight away, and the finish is so clean and long it's almost ridiculous. We kept pouring tiny amounts because nobody wanted it to run out. The kind of wine that makes the whole room go quiet for a second.
Properly impressive old tawny
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something really special for my dad's 70th. It's seriously good — loads of depth and concentration but it never feels heavy or boozy despite being 20%. Dad loved it which is the main thing. Only knocking a point off because at this price I'd want to know more about the blend and the age statement.
