Douro Boys Anniversary Cuvee Red Douro DOC 2021 / Magnum
Red 14% ABV ABV Douro BoysImpressive but the price tag stings
Got to try this at a tasting event and it's genuinely excellent — rich, layered, proper Douro power with enough acidity to keep it balanced. But £575 for a magnum is steep even for a special collab like the Douro Boys anniversary. I'd give it a 9 if it were half the price. Still glad I tried it though.
Birthday present to myself
Treated myself for my 40th and shared it with friends over a slow-cooked lamb shoulder. The wine matched the food perfectly — big and structured but never clumsy. You can tell there's real quality here, it just keeps revealing new things as you drink it. The magnum format is great for a group, everyone got a proper go at it.
Really good but not life-changing
The wine shop guy recommended this as something special and it IS very good — concentrated nose, solid structure, clean long finish. At 14% it's got some weight to it but doesn't taste boozy. My issue is purely the price. I've had Douro reds at a fraction of this that I enjoyed nearly as much. Hard to justify unless you're a collector or celebrating something massive.
Blown away
My brother-in-law brought this to Christmas dinner and I honestly can't stop thinking about it. So much depth and concentration, every sip was slightly different as it warmed up. The finish just lingers and lingers without being heavy. I've never spent this kind of money on wine myself but I finally understand why people do.
This is what Douro can do
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and split it with mates. None of us are experts but we all agreed this was something else. Really confident and layered, the kind of wine where you keep going back to your glass because it smells amazing. Worked brilliantly with our steaks. Would I buy it retail at £575? Probably not on my salary, but I'm so glad I got to try it.
Worth every penny for a special night
Bought this magnum for our 25th wedding anniversary dinner and it was the star of the evening. The tannins are firm but smooth, and the fruit just kept coming in waves. We decanted it for about an hour and it opened up beautifully — still had some left the next day and it was even better. At £575 it's a serious splurge but for a once-in-a-lifetime bottle, no regrets.
