Domane Wachau Gruner Veltliner Terrassen Smaragd 2023: A White of Real Character
White 13.5% ABV ABV WachauGoes great with takeaway
Had this with Thai green curry on a Friday night and it was banging. The acidity cuts right through the spice. Smells like flowers and nectarines which sounds fancy but honestly it's just a really drinkable white wine.
Nice but a bit pricey for what it is
It's a good wine, don't get me wrong. Crisp, lemony, does the job. But twenty-five quid? I've had Grüner Veltliners at half the price that weren't far off. Would probably wait for it to go on offer.
Best Gruner I've tried
I've been getting into Austrian wines lately and this is the best one so far. There's a minerally, almost salty quality to it that keeps it interesting. The finish goes on forever. At 13.5% it's got a bit of weight to it too without feeling heavy.
Really impressed with this one
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop recommended it. The citrus and passionfruit thing really comes through — it's bright and zingy without being sharp. Had it with some grilled fish and it was perfect. Would definitely buy again.
Solid white for a dinner party
Brought this to a friend's birthday dinner and everyone liked it. It's got a nice freshness to it, kind of limey and clean. Not the cheapest at £25 but it feels like a step up from the usual stuff we drink.
Decent midweek treat
Grabbed this from an online wine deal. It's nice — very fresh and citrusy, not sweet at all which I appreciate. My partner thought it was a bit dry but I liked that about it. Good but not sure I'd pay full price regularly.
This is what got me into Austrian whites
Saw this on a restaurant menu and took a chance on it. So glad I did. There's this gooseberry and lime thing going on that's really refreshing, and it has a dry chalky finish that makes you want to keep drinking. Tracked down a bottle to buy at home the next week.
