Domaine Taupenot-Merme Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru 2020: Old World Finesse
Orange 13.5% ABV ABV Taupenot-MermeThe leather and spice combo is lovely
Wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something serious for a dinner party. Everyone commented on it — there's this great leather and tobacco thing going on with dark fruit underneath. Went brilliantly with the lamb we had. Would buy again if my wallet allowed it.
Warming and rich, great winter wine
Picked this up after seeing it on a list somewhere online. Really warming — all that dark berry compote and spice makes it perfect for a cold evening with some steak. The 13.5% is a sweet spot too, felt generous without being heavy. Pricey but you can taste the quality.
Good but not blown away
Had this at a restaurant and was curious enough to look it up after. It's smooth and the liquorice and dark berry thing is nice, definitely well made. But at this price point I think I wanted it to completely knock my socks off and it didn't quite get there.
Expected more for the price honestly
Look, it's a nice wine. The blackcurrant and plum flavours are there and the finish goes on forever. But £275 for a Pinot Noir? I've had bottles at a third of the price that gave me just as much enjoyment. Maybe I'm missing something the experts see.
Proper treat for a special night
Bought this for our anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. Really rich and velvety, loads of dark berry flavours and a peppery kick that kept things interesting. At £275 it's not an everyday bottle but for a Grand Cru Burgundy it felt worth the splurge.
Solid Grand Cru, bit restrained
Opened this with a mate who's really into his wines. We both agreed it's well made — nice dark fruit, bit of graphite and pepper in there. But for a 2020 it still felt like it needs more time maybe? Decent but I wonder if sitting on it for a few years would make the difference.
Birthday present to myself!
Treated myself to this for my 40th and honestly so glad I did. The finish is unreal — plum and spice that just keeps going and makes you want another sip immediately. I'm not usually a Burgundy person but this has me rethinking that. Genuinely special bottle.
