Nice but I expected more

Maybe my expectations were too high given the price tag and all the hype around Cathiard. It's a solid red with good fruit and some interesting smoky mineral notes, but I kept waiting for that mind-blowing moment and it never quite came. Might need more time in the cellar to be fair — the tannins felt like they had more to give.

Opened up beautifully over dinner

Wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something special for a dinner party. Gave it an hour in a decanter and it was incredible — loads of raspberry and black fruit with a savoury earthy thing on the finish that had everyone at the table going quiet for a second. The 14% ABV is well hidden too, dangerously drinkable.

Best Burgundy I've ever had

My wife got me this as a birthday present and I'm still thinking about it weeks later. So much going on — dark fruit, something almost metallic and mineral, violets. The finish just goes on and on. I know the price is steep but Cathiard is one of those producers where you genuinely get what you pay for.

Really good but hard to justify the price

Had this at a restaurant and it was stunning, all dark cherry and this chalky stony texture that I loved. But when I looked up the retail price afterwards... £250 is a lot. I've had Nuits St Georges from other producers at half that which got pretty close. Still, it's a seriously good wine.

Worth every penny for a special night

Bought this for our anniversary dinner and wow. The dark cherry and raspberry hit you straight away, and there's this smoky thing going on underneath that I really liked. Tannins are silky smooth and it just kept getting better as we drank it. At £250 it's not an everyday wine obviously, but for a big occasion it's hard to beat.
