Domaine Sylvain Cathiard Gevrey Chambertin 2019
Red 14% ABV ABV Sylvain CathiardImpressive Burgundy
Had this at a friend's dinner party and immediately asked what it was. Really expressive nose, loads of dark fruit character, and the acidity keeps everything fresh. At £150 it's not an everyday wine but it's genuinely good Gevrey-Chambertin.
Best Burgundy I've had in ages
The guy at my local wine shop talked me into this and I'm so glad he did. Everything just works — the fruit, the structure, the warmth. Drank it with a slow-cooked beef stew and it was perfect. Cathiard clearly knows what they're doing.
Really nice but the price stings
Look, it's a lovely wine. Clean finish, well balanced, generous fruit without being jammy. But £150 is a lot and I've had Gevrey-Chambertin at half the price that came close. Would I buy it again? Probably not unless it was on offer.
Good not great for the money
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and went for it. It's nice — warm, smooth, decent complexity — but at this price point I was expecting to be blown away and I wasn't quite. The nose is lovely though, I'll give it that. Maybe I'd feel differently if I'd cellared it a few years.
Solid pick from Cathiard
Opened this with some wine club mates and everyone was impressed. Great structure, the acidity keeps it fresh, and there's a warmth to it that makes it really approachable right now. A couple of us thought it could age well too. Good stuff, just wish it was a bit cheaper.
Proper Burgundy done right
Picked this up for our anniversary dinner. No weird oak flavours or anything trying too hard, just really honest, well-made Pinot Noir from a great producer. The finish lingers nicely and the whole thing feels balanced and complete. Worth the money for a celebration.
Birthday splurge that delivered
Bought this for my 40th and wow, it really delivered. Beautiful red fruit aromas straight out of the glass, didn't need to wait around for it to open up. Silky and warming without being boozy even at 14%. Would absolutely buy again for a special occasion.
Treated myself and zero regrets
I'm still fairly new to Burgundy but I can tell this is quality. Really aromatic, clean tasting, and goes down dangerously easy for 14% ABV. Had it with roast lamb and it was a brilliant match. Already told three friends about it.
