Domaine Roland Schmitt Riesling Glintzberg 2024: Crisp Precision, Mineral Depth
White 13% ABV ABV Roland SchmittSolid Riesling, fair price
Good honest Riesling. You get that pear and apple thing going on, plus a minerally finish that keeps it interesting. At £24 it's not cheap for a weeknight bottle but it punches above a lot of supermarket Rieslings I've tried.
Decent bottle, nothing wrong with it
Saw this on a wine list at a restaurant and then tracked it down online. It's a well-made Riesling — apple and citrus flavours, good acidity, refreshing finish. Not life-changing but consistently enjoyable. Shared it with mates over some takeaway pizza and no complaints from anyone.
One of my favourite whites this year
Absolutely loved this. That mineral, almost salty finish is so moreish. Opened it on a Friday evening just to have a glass and ended up finishing the bottle over dinner. At 13% it's got enough body to feel substantial without being heavy. Already ordered more.
Really impressed with this one
Picked this up from my local wine shop on the guy's recommendation and honestly glad I did. Lovely crisp apple and lemon flavours, really refreshing but not thin or watery. Had it with some grilled fish and it was perfect. Would definitely buy again.
Good introduction to proper Riesling
I'm still pretty new to wine beyond the basics but I'm trying to learn more about Riesling. This was recommended on a forum and I can see why — it's dry, got a nice flinty edge to it, and doesn't taste sweet like the cheap ones. The pear flavour really comes through.
Nice but a bit pricey for what it is
It's a perfectly fine wine, don't get me wrong — crisp, clean, decent lemony flavours. But nearly £25 for an Alsace Riesling that isn't grand cru? I've had comparable bottles for £15-18. Would drink it again but wouldn't seek it out.
Birthday dinner hit
Bought two of these for my wife's birthday dinner and everyone loved them. There's a creaminess to it that I wasn't expecting from a Riesling, and that chalky dry finish meant we just kept topping up glasses. Went brilliantly with the chicken we made.
