Domaine du Clos Frantin Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru 2020: Dark Fruit Elegance
Red 13.5% ABV ABV Du Clos FrantinGood but not £230 good
Got this as a birthday present and while it's a solid Pinot Noir, I'm not sure it justifies the price tag. The dark fruit and spice thing is nice and it's smooth enough, but I've had Burgundies at half the price that I enjoyed just as much. Wouldn't buy it for myself.
Proper Grand Cru stuff
Treated myself after a bonus at work. This is a serious wine — full bodied, loads of blackberry and damson, and there's a sort of pencilly mineral thing at the end that's unlike anything I've tasted before. Tannins are silky smooth. I'm no expert but this felt like quality.
Interesting wine, needs time maybe
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted a proper Burgundy. Cherry and raspberry on the nose which was great, and it's got this earthy quality I quite liked. Felt like it could do with another few years in the bottle though — a bit young still. Had it with slow-cooked lamb and that worked well.
Lovely bottle for a special night
Opened this for our anniversary dinner and it was really nice. Big dark fruit flavours, blackberry mostly, and it felt smooth and rich without being heavy. The finish stuck around for ages which I liked. Pricey at over £200 but it did feel like a treat.
Nice enough but expected more
Had this at a restaurant and was curious so I tracked down a bottle. It's pleasant — spicy, fruity, well made Pinot Noir for sure. But at this price point I was expecting to be blown away and honestly I just thought it was decent. The herby savoury notes were probably the most interesting part.
