Domaine des Marnes Blanches Savagnin en Quatre Vis 2023
White 12% ABV ABV Des Marnes BlanchesNice but steep price
Had this at a friend's dinner party and thought it was lovely, then looked up the price. £42 is a lot for a white wine in my world. The Savagnin grape gives it a really distinctive taste though, sort of nutty and textured. I'd buy it for a special occasion but not as a weeknight wine.
Birthday treat that delivered
My partner got me this for my birthday after seeing it recommended somewhere online. It's really expressive — you can smell it as soon as you pour and it just keeps opening up in the glass. Crisp acidity, proper structure, and at 12% ABV we polished off the bottle without feeling rough the next day.
Proper grown-up white wine
Picked this up from our local wine shop after the owner raved about it. Really glad I did — it's got this lovely freshness and the acidity keeps you coming back for more. Light but not watery if that makes sense? At 12% it's dangerously easy to drink for a £42 bottle.
Good not great
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and ordered it because I'd never tried Savagnin before. It's a solid white — clean finish, decent complexity, nothing to complain about really. Just not sure it blew me away enough to justify hunting down a bottle at full retail price. Would happily have another glass though.
Finally get what Savagnin is about
I've been trying to get into Jura wines and this one clicked for me. No weird funky stuff, just clean and interesting with a finish that sticks around. Went brilliantly with a roast chicken. Will definitely be ordering another bottle.
