On the Nose and Palate

Tyler Bennet VIPsAllowed - Interesting wine, needs time to open up
7/10

Picked this up after reading about it online. First glass I wasn't sure — felt quite tight and tannic. Left it open for an hour and it completely changed, loads of dark berry fruit came through with an earthy, almost mineral quality on the end. If you buy it, give it some air or even better stick it in a decanter.

Olivia Wong VIPsAllowed - Solid Burgundy, not cheap though
7/10

The guy at my local wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted a good Pinot Noir. It's well made — blackcurrant and plum with a slightly smoky edge. Finish goes on for a while which I liked. Just hard to justify £70 regularly when there are decent Pinots for half that.

Ingrid Holm VIPsAllowed - Good but expected more for the price
6/10

Had this at a friend's house and it was nice enough — dark fruity, savoury finish, well put together. But honestly for nearly £70 I'd want something that really blows me away and this didn't quite get there. I've had cheaper Burgundies that excited me more.

Amira Benali VIPsAllowed - Perfect with a slow-cooked lamb
8/10

We had this with a lamb shoulder last weekend and it was a brilliant match. Big bramble and plum flavours with a spicy clove thing going on. Really lingering finish too, kept coming back for another sip. Splashed out a bit but no regrets.

Elena Vasquez VIPsAllowed - Really impressed with this one
8/10

Bought this for my wife's birthday dinner and we both loved it. Rich dark fruit flavours, bit of chocolate in there too. Tannins are smooth enough that we didn't need to decant it for ages. At seventy quid it's a treat not an everyday bottle, but worth it for a special occasion.
