Colinas De Sao Lourenco CalCariO3 Do Principal Reserva Tinto 2014
Red 14% ABV ABV Colinas De SaoGreat find from Portugal
I've been getting more into Portuguese wines lately and this is one of the best I've tried. There's a real depth to it — dark berries, something almost stony underneath, and it finishes clean. Let it breathe for 30 mins and it really opens up. The 14% alcohol is well hidden which is always a good sign.
Solid Portuguese red
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted something different from the usual Rioja. It's a proper grown-up red — not jammy or over the top, just well balanced with a nice long finish. 14% but you wouldn't really know it. Good stuff.
Really impressed with this one
Picked this up from a wine shop in Lisbon on holiday last year and finally opened it for my wife's birthday. The dark fruit flavours are lovely and it's got this earthy thing going on that I really enjoyed. Smooth but not boring — kept wanting another sip. At around £26 I'd happily buy it again.
Interesting find
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and thought I'd take a punt on it. Quite earthy and minerally which isn't usually my thing but it works here. The fruit is dark and rich without being heavy. Would pair nicely with a cheese board or a steak.
Not really for me
I'm more of a fruity, easy-drinking wine person and this was a bit serious for my taste. It's clearly well made and my partner loved it, but I found it a bit too dry and restrained. The earthy notes just aren't my cup of tea. If you like that style though, probably worth a go.
Perfect dinner party wine
Brought this to a friend's dinner party and it was a hit with everyone. Goes brilliantly with red meat — we had it with slow-cooked lamb and it was spot on. Really layered flavours that kept changing as the night went on. One of those bottles where you keep noticing new things.
Nice but a bit steep
Decent wine, don't get me wrong. Dark fruity nose, drinks well, but for £26 I expected a bit more wow factor. It's quite subtle and takes a while to open up. If you're patient with it there's good stuff in there, but I've had Portuguese reds at half the price that gave me more excitement.
