Clos du Jaugueyron Margaux 2019
Red 14% ABV ABV Clos du JaugueyronImpressed the in-laws
Brought this to Sunday lunch at the in-laws and even my father-in-law who's fussy about wine was nodding along. It's got this clean, long finish and the fruit flavours are really clear and layered. Not an everyday buy at that price but great when you want to make an impression.
Nice but bit pricey for what it is
Had this at a restaurant and it was good, don't get me wrong. Dark fruity, well balanced, decent finish. But for £82 a bottle I've had Margaux that impressed me more. The 14% alcohol is well hidden at least, didn't feel heavy at all.
Birthday treat that delivered
Bought this for my 40th and wow, glad I did. Really smooth with these dark fruit flavours that just kept going. The tannins are firm but not harsh — had it with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder and it was perfect. Pricey at £82 but felt worth it for the occasion.
Solid Margaux but not cheap
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something special for a dinner party. It's lovely — really aromatic when you pour it, almost floral. Everyone commented on it. Just hard to justify £82 on a regular basis though.
Proper grown-up wine
Picked this up after seeing it recommended online and it's a serious bottle. Really expressive — you can smell it from across the table. Paired it with steak and it was spot on. The kind of wine that makes you sit up and pay attention.
Best red I've had this year
I don't give 10s lightly but this is genuinely fantastic. The nose hits you straight away, no swirling needed, just pour and enjoy. Great structure, loads of depth, and the finish goes on forever. Already ordered another bottle.
