Clos-de-Vougeot Grand Cru du Clos Frantin 2020: Power Meets Poise
Red 13.5% ABV ABV FrantinBirthday splurge that delivered
Bought this for my 50th and wow, it did not disappoint. The dark cherry and plum flavours are incredible — rich and smooth without being heavy. Tannins are silky and the finish just goes on and on. Yes it's £495 but for a milestone birthday Grand Cru, I'd do it again.
Great wine but ouch the price
Look, this is a genuinely good wine. Smooth, rich, loads of blackcurrant and cherry going on, nice long finish. But £495 is a LOT of money and I've had Burgundies at half the price that come close. Would I buy it again? Probably not, but I'm glad I tried it once.
Classy stuff
Got this as a gift and honestly didn't know much about Clos-de-Vougeot before opening it. The plum and cherry flavours hit you straight away, then there's this liquorice and herby thing going on underneath. Really complex but easy to drink at 13.5%. I'm no expert but this felt like a serious wine.
Nice but not £500 nice
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and split it with mates so the cost wasn't too bad per person. It's rich and fruity with a kind of graphite-mineral thing at the end that's interesting. Definitely enjoyed it and the finish lasts ages. But I kept thinking about what else I could get for that money. A solid 7 from me.
Shared with steak and it was perfect
The wine shop guy recommended this when I said I wanted something special for our anniversary. Paired it with ribeye steaks and it was unreal. All that dark berry and the cedar notes work so well with red meat. Velvety smooth and the spice on the finish is just right. My wife loved it too which is the main thing.
Proper Burgundy
Had this at a friend's dinner party and immediately wanted to know what it was. Really lovely dark fruit with a bit of spice and something almost smoky towards the end. Pinot Noir at its best honestly. Not sure I could justify the price myself but glad I got to try it.
