Cline Late Harvest Mourvedre 2021: Liquid History
Fortified 14.5% ABV ABV ClineAbsolute stunner
Where has this been all my life? The dried fig and orange peel on the nose pulled me right in and the finish goes on forever. That dry tangy ending is brilliant — stops it being a one-note sweetie. Already ordered another bottle.
Nice weekend treat
Saw this on a menu at a wine bar and liked it enough to track down a bottle. £23 feels about right for what you get. Really enjoyed the roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavours. Goes surprisingly well with a rich chocolate cake.
Bit much for me
Got this as a birthday present. It's very intense — dried fruit, spice, the works. I can see why people rate it but I prefer something lighter. Ended up having it with blue cheese which helped cut through the richness.
Perfect after-dinner wine
This is what I want instead of dessert. The walnut and caramel thing going on is gorgeous and it's not sickly sweet like some late harvest wines I've tried. My partner who normally hates sweet wines actually liked it.
Good but not amazing
The wine shop guy recommended this and it's decent. I got the fig and toffee flavours they mentioned on the label but honestly it was a bit heavy for my taste. Might work better with cheese or something rich.
Interesting stuff from Cline
I'm a fan of Cline's other wines so grabbed this out of curiosity. It's proper old-vine Mourvedre — loads of concentration and that coffee/dark chocolate depth. Not an everyday drinker but really enjoyable when you're in the mood for something big.
Really different, in a good way
Never had a late harvest Mourvedre before and wasn't sure what to expect. It's rich and dense but somehow not too sweet — the dry finish caught me off guard. Would buy again but probably only for colder months.
Christmas in a glass
Bought this for a dinner party and it was the star of the evening. Genuinely tastes like liquid Christmas pudding with dark chocolate. Everyone wanted to know what it was. At £23 it's a steal for something this interesting.
