Claus Preisinger Kalkundkiesel Weiss 2023
Red 14% ABV ABV Claus PreisingerGood but bit pricey
The wine shop guy recommended this and it's decent but I'm not sure it's worth £31. It's clean and balanced sure, but for that money I want something that really wows me. Would maybe try it again on sale.
Interesting stuff
I'm still learning about wine but this felt like a step up from what I usually drink. The acidity gives it a nice freshness and it pairs well with basically anything — we had it with pizza one night and steak the next. Bit of a splurge at £30 but worth trying.
Not really for me
I know people love Preisinger but this didn't click for me. It's well made and all that but at 14% I expected more punch and it felt a bit restrained? Maybe I need to try it again with food. At £30 I'd probably pick something else.
Really impressed with this
Bought this for a dinner party and it was a hit. Really smooth for 14% — you don't feel the alcohol at all which is dangerous honestly. The nose is gorgeous, kind of pulls you in. Would definitely buy again at £30.
Birthday treat that delivered
Wife got me this for my birthday and wow. You can tell there's real thought behind it — the flavours sort of unfold the longer you sit with it. Clean finish that doesn't disappear straight away. 14% but drinks lighter than that.
Solid natural wine
Had this with some grilled lamb and it worked perfectly. Nice acidity that cuts through richer food. It's not a showstopper but it's well made and interesting. Fair price for what you get from Preisinger.
Nice weekend bottle
Picked this up after seeing it on a wine list at a restaurant. Smells amazing straight out the bottle — really inviting. Fruit is ripe but not jammy which I appreciate. Had it with pasta and cheese, no complaints.
My new favourite Austrian red
Been getting into Austrian wines lately and this is exactly why. So much complexity once you give it a few minutes in the glass. The finish just hangs around in the best way. Claus Preisinger is doing brilliant stuff.
