Wei Zhang VIPsAllowed - Good but not £77 good
7/10

Mate recommended this and yeah it's a solid red, nicely balanced with proper depth to it. But at nearly 77 quid I was expecting to be blown away and I wasn't quite there. Would happily drink it again at someone else's house though.

Mei-Lin Wu VIPsAllowed - Birthday treat that delivered
9/10

Got this as a birthday present to myself — figured if you can't splash out on a Grand Cru for your 40th, when can you? Really glad I did. The fruit hits you straight away but it's not jammy or over the top, and it just keeps going. That finish had me reaching for the glass again before I'd even put it down.

8/10

Not gonna lie I don't know loads about wine but I know what I like, and I really liked this. Smells amazing when you pour it and the finish is the kind where you just keep wanting another sip. Shared it with my partner over a cheese board on a Friday night and we were both impressed. Pricey but felt worth it for a treat.

Jackson Wu VIPsAllowed - Nice enough, expected more complexity
7/10

Picked this up from a wine shop in town, the guy behind the counter was raving about it. It's pleasant and well made, the acid keeps everything fresh which I appreciated. I just thought for a Grand Cru it would have a bit more going on. Still enjoyed it with a steak though.

Connor McBride VIPsAllowed - The magnum made the evening
9/10

There's something about cracking open a magnum that just makes a night feel special. This St Emilion is properly expressive — you get loads of fruit character right from the first pour and it stayed interesting all the way through the bottle. At 14% it's got some heft but never feels heavy. Genuinely one of the better Bordeaux I've had this year.

Haruki Sato VIPsAllowed - Perfect dinner party wine
8/10

Opened this for a dinner party with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder and it was a brilliant match. Really confident fruit, not shy at all, and the structure held up beautifully next to the rich food. Several guests asked me what it was, which is always a good sign.
