Diana Cruz VIPsAllowed - Birthday treat that delivered
9/10

Bought this for my 40th and honestly it was the highlight of the evening. Really rich blackcurrant flavour with a kind of stony, earthy thing going on underneath. Tannins are firm but smooth — went perfectly with the ribeye we had. At £44 it's not an everyday bottle but for a special occasion it's spot on.

Clara Johansson VIPsAllowed - Solid red, bit serious for a weeknight
7/10

Picked this up for a Friday night in and it was maybe a bit much for pizza and telly if I'm honest. It's a structured wine with firm tannins and dark fruit — more of a steak-and-candles kind of bottle. Good quality though, the finish goes on for ages.

Bloke in my local recommended this when I said I wanted something proper for a Sunday roast. Dark fruit, quite serious tasting, with a long clean finish. Needed about 30 mins after opening to really open up but once it did — lovely stuff.

Daniel Oyama VIPsAllowed - Nice but maybe not £44 nice
7/10

Had this at a friend's dinner party and it was good, don't get me wrong. Plummy and dark with a nice dry finish. But for nearly forty-five quid I think I expected a bit more wow factor? I've had Bordeaux at half the price that I enjoyed just as much.

Simon Hughes VIPsAllowed - Margaux that actually lives up to the name
9/10

I'm not usually one to spend over £40 on a bottle but I'd been wanting to try a decent Margaux for ages. The blackcurrant and plum are really well defined and there's this graphite-y mineral quality that makes it taste like proper terroir wine. Genuinely impressed. Will be buying another to cellar.

Kai Oliveira VIPsAllowed - Went down a storm at dinner
8/10

Brought this to a dinner party and everyone commented on it which was nice. Really expressive on the nose — you can smell the dark fruit straight away. Smooth but with enough grip to keep things interesting. 14% ABV so it packs a punch too, be warned! Would definitely buy again for hosting.
