Chateau Cru Godard 2022 / Bordeaux Francs
Red 14% ABV ABV Cru GodardSolid Bordeaux, nothing flashy
This is a good honest red. Not trying to be anything it isn't — just well-made wine with decent structure and a clean finish. I liked the savoury notes especially. At £20 it's fair value but I wouldn't call it a bargain.
Birthday treat that delivered
My wife got me this for my birthday and we cracked it open with some lamb chops. Really layered — you keep finding new things in each sip, dark fruit at first then these savoury earthy bits come through. At 14% it's got some weight to it but doesn't feel heavy. Genuinely enjoyed this one.
Good weeknight red, keeps well too
Had a glass on Friday and finished the bottle Saturday — actually thought it was better on the second day which was a nice surprise. Quite fruity with a dry finish that lingers. The wine shop guy said it could age a few years too so I grabbed another bottle to stick in the cupboard. Decent Bordeaux for the price.
Really impressed for under £20
Picked this up from my local wine shop on a whim and honestly it punched well above its weight. Lovely dark fruit, almost blackberry-ish, with something earthy underneath that made it feel properly grown-up. Had it with a slow-cooked beef stew and it was spot on. Would definitely buy again.
Nice but expected more
Bought this for a dinner party based on a recommendation and it was fine, just not as exciting as I'd hoped. The fruit was there and the tannins were smooth enough, but for nearly £20 I've had Côtes du Rhône that gave me more to think about. My mate loved it though so maybe it's just me.
