Wei Zhang VIPsAllowed - Really impressed for under £20
8/10

Picked this up from my local wine shop on a whim and honestly it punches well above its weight. Loads of dark fruit — plums, blackcurrant — and it's got this lovely spicy thing going on underneath. Had it with a slow-cooked beef stew and it was perfect. Will definitely be buying more.

Nils Bergman VIPsAllowed - Nice but a touch heavy for me
6/10

Bought this for a dinner party and it went down fine with the lamb. Quite full-on though — 14% and you can feel it. The dark plum and berry flavours are nice and there's a sort of mineral edge I quite liked. Just personally prefer something a bit lighter these days.

Aria Kim VIPsAllowed - Solid Bordeaux, nothing flashy
7/10

Good honest red. Not trying to be something it isn't, just proper dark berry flavours with a bit of earthiness. Tannins are there but it's not going to dry your mouth out. Decent for the price, though I've had similarly good stuff from the Languedoc for a fiver less.

Kwame Mensah VIPsAllowed - Birthday treat that delivered
8/10

My wife got me this for my birthday after the guy in the wine shop recommended it. Really good stuff — blackcurrant and dark berry upfront, then this graphite-y, almost smoky finish that keeps going. At £20 it's not an everyday bottle but it feels like proper wine. Would happily have it again.
