Chapel Down Kit's Coty Blanc de Blancs 2017: Luminous and Layered
White 12% ABV ABV Chapel DownSolid Chardonnay, keeps pulling you back
Picked this up after reading about Chapel Down somewhere online. The finish is what gets me — it just lingers with this lemony peach thing and a dry chalky edge that makes you want another sip. At 12% it's not going to knock you sideways either. Good stuff.
Birthday treat that delivered
Got this as a birthday present from someone who clearly knows me well. Really creamy and smooth but still fresh — not one of those heavy oaky Chardonnays I usually avoid. The nectarine and pear flavours are bang on. Proper special occasion wine.
Served this at a dinner party
Opened this with a fish pie and it went down a storm. Everyone commented on it. There's an almond-y thing in the background that I really liked and it's got enough body to hold up to richer food. Will definitely get it again for guests.
Didn't know English wine could do this
I'm pretty new to wine beyond grabbing whatever's on offer at the supermarket, but this was on a restaurant menu and the waiter talked me into it. So glad he did. It's creamy but not heavy, if that makes sense? The grapefruit hit at the start is really refreshing. Genuinely changed my mind about English wines.
Blown away by this
Bought this for our anniversary and wow. The creamy texture is gorgeous and there's this lovely pear thing going on that I wasn't expecting from an English white. That chalky dry finish had me pouring another glass immediately. Worth every penny of the £60.
Really impressive English wine
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this and I'm glad he did. Loads of citrus on the nose — proper grapefruit — and it drinks way above what I'd expect from a Kent Chardonnay. Only knocking a point off because at £61 I can't justify buying it regularly.
Good but bit pricey for what it is
It's nice, don't get me wrong. Lovely citrus nose and a clean finish. But sixty quid? I've had Burgundies at that price that give you more. Would happily drink it again if someone else was buying though.
Best English white I've had
Had this at a tasting event and immediately tracked down a bottle. The freshness is unreal, all lemon and white peach, but there's a richness underneath that stops it being just another crisp white. Chapel Down have absolutely nailed it with this one.
