Champagne Deutz Blanc de Blancs 2017
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV DeutzReally good but hard to justify the price
Look, this is genuinely excellent Champagne. Crisp, complex, lovely long finish. But at over £90 a bottle I keep thinking about how many decent Crémants I could buy instead. I'd happily drink it again if someone else is paying though.
Lovely but took a minute to open up
Grabbed this from Majestic after reading about Deutz somewhere. First pour I thought it was a bit tight and closed off, but after 10 minutes in the glass it completely changed — got all these layered citrus and toasty notes coming through. Patience pays off with this one.
Nice but expected more for the money
Had a glass at a restaurant and thought it was very good — precise and well balanced with fine bubbles. Then I looked up the retail price and nearly choked. It's a solid Blanc de Blancs but I've had ones at half the cost that came pretty close. The 2017 vintage is decent, just not sure it's £92 decent.
Birthday treat that delivered
My wife got me this for my 40th and wow. Really elegant stuff — the bubbles are super fine and it just keeps going on the finish. At £92 it's not an everyday bottle but for a special occasion it's absolutely worth it.
Best Champagne I've had in ages
Had this at a friend's dinner party and immediately asked where they got it. Pure Chardonnay and you can really tell — it's so clean and focused compared to the usual blends. The acidity is spot on and the finish goes on forever. Already ordered two bottles for Christmas.
Proper grown-up fizz
The wine shop guy steered me toward this when I said I wanted something a step up from Moët for our anniversary. He was right — it's in a completely different league. There's real weight to it but it still feels fresh and lively. We had it with some smoked salmon starters and it was perfect.
