Carlos Raposo Definido Branco 2021
Red 14% ABV ABV Carlos RaposoDecent, expected more
Saw this on a restaurant menu and ordered it based on the description. It's well-made for sure, clean finish and good acidity. But for what I paid I wanted to be blown away and I was more like pleasantly satisfied. Partner preferred her glass of Douro.
Birthday treat that delivered
Got this as a birthday present for myself because why not. Poured the first glass and it just smelled amazing right away — confident and fruity without being over the top. Had it with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder and it was perfect together.
Carlos Raposo knows what he's doing
Second wine I've tried from this producer and they clearly know their stuff. Really well put together — the fruit, the acidity, everything just works. Had it over two evenings and it was actually better on night two. Great with a cheese board.
Solid Portuguese red
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this and I'm glad he did. Big fruit flavours but balanced, not jammy. 14% but you'd never know it — goes down dangerously smooth. Would buy again for a special occasion.
Good but pricey
Nice wine, don't get me wrong. Lovely depth and the finish lingers in a really pleasant way. But nearly sixty quid? I've had Portuguese reds at half the price that come close. Would maybe treat myself again but wouldn't rush back.
Really impressed
I'm still fairly new to wine beyond the supermarket shelf but this was something else. Complex is the word I'd use — every sip I noticed something different. The alcohol is high but it doesn't burn at all, just adds this lovely weight. Expensive but I get why.
Proper Saturday night wine
Bought this for a dinner party and it was the star of the evening. Really rich and full but not heavy if that makes sense? The finish just keeps going. At £60 it's not an everyday bottle but it genuinely impressed everyone at the table.
