Bruno Paillard Blanc de Blancs Liberte 2013 / Magnum
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Bruno PaillardThe wine shop guy nailed it
Asked at my local for something a bit special for Christmas and they recommended this. Blanc de Blancs so it's all Chardonnay which I didn't know until they explained. Really fresh and citrusy but also has this brioche richness to it. Went perfectly with the smoked salmon starters.
Really nice but big money
Had this at a friend's dinner party and it was seriously good — crisp, peachy, elegant. But when I looked up the price afterwards... £177 is a lot. I'd happily drink it again if someone else is buying, but I can get champagnes I love for half that.
Absolutely stunning in magnum
Got the magnum for New Year's and it was the star of the evening. Something about the bigger bottle format just works — the bubbles were incredible and it stayed fresh right to the last glass. That gentle chalky finish keeps pulling you back in. Already ordered another one for next year.
Proper grown-up champagne
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and treated myself. It's not showy at all, just really well made — bright acidity, lemony fruit, fine bubbles. The kind of champagne that makes you slow down and actually pay attention to what you're drinking. 12.5% ABV too so it doesn't hit you over the head.
Best champagne I've had in years
My wife got me this as a birthday present and I'm still thinking about it weeks later. There's a chalky, minerally thing happening underneath the fruit that just makes it so interesting — I kept swirling and sniffing like a weirdo. The almond note on the palate caught me off guard in the best way. Genuinely special bottle.
Worth every penny for a special night
Bought this for our anniversary dinner and wow, it really delivered. The bubbles are so fine and delicate, and there's this lovely lemon curd thing going on that I kept going back for. At £177 it's not an everyday bottle obviously, but for a celebration it's absolutely spot on.
Solid champagne, maybe overhyped?
Don't get me wrong, this is very good champagne. Clean, precise, lovely white peach flavour. But at this price point I was expecting to be completely blown away and it was more like... quietly impressive? Still rating it highly because the quality is clearly there.
