Brunello di Montalcino Caparzo 2020 / Half Bottle
Red 14% ABV ABV CaparzoReally impressive half bottle
Picked this up for a midweek treat because I wanted something proper without committing to a full bottle. Really glad I did — it's got this lovely mix of cherry and something almost earthy that kept me going back for more. Tannins are there but not aggressive. At £27 for a half bottle it's not cheap, but it genuinely felt like a step up from what I normally drink.
Good but a bit steep for a half bottle
The wine itself is nice enough — proper Italian red, fruity but dry with a clean finish. My issue is paying nearly £27 for 375ml. You can get a full bottle of something really good for that money. I'd have it again at a restaurant but probably wouldn't rebuy for home.
Birthday dinner winner
Bought two of these for my wife's birthday dinner since we wanted to try a couple of different wines without overdoing it. This was easily the favourite — really expressive, loads of dark fruit and it just kept getting better as it opened up. The finish lingers in a really pleasant way. Half bottles are underrated honestly, perfect for two people splitting a nice meal.
Solid Brunello, nothing to complain about
Had this with a slow-cooked ragu and it was a great match. Nice fresh acidity that cuts through rich food really well. It's decent for a Caparzo — not their best wine but reliable as always. Would probably go for the full bottle next time for better value though.
