Bought this for my 40th and it was worth every penny. Really rich dark fruit flavours with a smoky edge that I wasn't expecting. The tannins are big but not harsh — polished off most of the bottle with a slow-cooked beef shin and it was perfect.

Nice wine, no question. Loads of dark berry and a leathery kind of depth that I enjoyed. But at over sixty quid I'd want it to blow my socks off, and it didn't quite get there for me. Would probably pick a Langhe Nebbiolo at half the price most days.

Had a glass of this at an Italian place and liked it enough to track down a bottle. Big and bold with blackberry and something almost paprika-like which sounds weird but works. At 14% it's not messing about — two glasses and you know about it. Would buy again for a steak night.

First glass I wasn't sure about it — felt a bit closed off and tannic. Left it for an hour and it came alive, all smoky dark fruit and a bit of spice. Not bad at all but I think it probably needs a few more years in the bottle to really hit its stride.

Guy in our local recommended this when I said I wanted something special for a dinner party. Really bold and fruity with this cool liquorice thing going on. Everyone at the table was impressed and two people asked me where I got it.

I've been getting into Italian reds lately and this is the best one I've had so far. Loads of concentrated black fruit, proper grip from the tannins, and a finish that keeps you coming back for more. Had it with a lamb ragu and honestly it was one of those meals you remember.
