Birichino Scylla 2019
Red 14% ABV ABV BirichinoSolid but not cheap
The wine shop guy recommended this and it's good, properly good — nice balance and the finish just keeps going. But at £27 I'd want it to be a bit more exciting. Fine for a special dinner, probably wouldn't grab it midweek.
Expected more tbh
Bought this for my wife's birthday based on the label and price. It's alright — drinks easy enough and the alcohol doesn't hit you even at 14%. Just felt like it was missing something to make it stand out. Not bad, just not £27 good for me.
Really nice with a roast
Grabbed this for a Sunday roast and it was a hit. Smells gorgeous straight out of the bottle — didn't need to faff around letting it breathe for ages. Smooth tannins and enough fruit without being one of those jammy ones. Would definitely buy again.
Punches above for a weeknight red
Saw this on a restaurant menu and liked it so much I tracked a bottle down online. Really expressive nose, loads going on in the middle, and a clean finish that makes you keep going back. Had it with some lamb chops and it was perfect. One of those wines that just works.
