Billecart-Salmon Le Clos St Hilaire 2005
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Billecart-SalmonIncredible but hard to justify the price
Tried this at a tasting event and it's genuinely beautiful champagne. Really structured and complex, not like your typical fizz at all. But £465 is a LOT of money and I'm not sure it's twice as good as champagnes at half the price. If someone else is buying though, say yes immediately.
Worth every penny for a special night
Bought this for our 20th wedding anniversary and wow, it did not disappoint. The bubbles are so fine and elegant, and it just keeps getting better the longer it sits in the glass. At £465 it's obviously not an everyday buy but for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion? Absolutely worth it.
The one that changed how I think about champagne
A mate who's really into wine brought this round for New Year's and it blew my mind. I always thought champagne was just fancy bubbles but this has serious depth to it — almost like a great white wine that happens to be sparkling. The acidity keeps everything fresh and tight. Completely converted me.
Best champagne I've ever had
Had this at a friend's birthday dinner and I genuinely couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards. There's so much going on — layers of flavour that just keep unfolding. The finish lingers forever in the best possible way. I now understand why people obsess over Billecart-Salmon.
Stunning but needs time to open up
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and decided to treat myself. First glass I thought it was nice but not £465 nice. By the third glass I was completely sold — it really does reveal more and more as it opens up. Give it time and don't rush it. Not one for knocking back at a party.
