Billecart-Salmon Demi-Sec Champagne: Bubbles of Distinction
Champagne 12% ABV ABV Billecart-SalmonSolid champagne, does the job
Picked this up for New Year's and it was a hit with everyone. Nice peachy nose when you pour it and those tiny bubbles look great in the glass. The lemon curd sweetness is quite moreish. Not the most complex champagne I've had but at this price point it's decent.
Nice but steep for demi-sec
Look, it's a perfectly nice champagne. The peach and lemon curd flavours are there and the finish is long. But nearly £57 for a demi-sec? I've had brut champagnes at this price that impressed me more. If you like sweeter styles it's solid, just felt a bit pricey for what it is.
Converted me to demi-sec
I normally go for brut everything but had this at a friend's dinner party and honestly loved it. You get bread and almonds and citrus all at once and it somehow just works. Not sickly sweet like I expected — actually really elegant. Went straight out and bought a bottle the next day.
Expected a bit more honestly
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and ordered a glass. It's pleasant enough — the brioche flavour is nice and the bubbles are very fine. But for Billecart-Salmon I was expecting to be blown away and it just didn't quite get there for me. The sweetness might not be for everyone either. Not bad, just not what I'd reach for again.
Great with dessert
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this when I said I wanted something for after dinner. He was spot on. It's sweet enough to work with a fruit tart but that chalky dryness at the end stops it being too much. Really fine bubbles too, proper stuff.
Really impressed with this one
Bought this for my wife's birthday dinner and it went down an absolute treat. The bubbles are so fine and delicate, and there's this lovely brioche thing going on that makes it feel really special. Slightly sweet but not in a cloying way at all. Would definitely buy again.
