Besserat de Bellefon Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Besserat de BellefonNice but is it £76 nice?
Look, it's a good champagne. Crisp, well made, proper depth to it. But at £76.50 I can't help thinking there are bottles at £45-50 that get you 90% of the way there. Would happily drink it again if someone else was buying.
Christmas day winner
Got this for Christmas day and it was the star of the meal. Beautiful fine mousse and a really pure, focused taste that went perfectly with the smoked salmon starter. Will definitely be buying again next December.
The good stuff
Saw this on a restaurant menu and the sommelier talked me into it. So glad he did. It's all Chardonnay grapes and you can really tell — clean and elegant but not boring at all. Tracked down a bottle for home the next week.
Birthday treat that delivered
My wife got me this for my 40th and wow, it's properly good stuff. Really clean and fresh with tiny bubbles that just keep going. At £76 it's not an everyday thing but for a special occasion it's worth every penny.
Step up from my usual
I normally stick to prosecco or cava so this was a big jump for me. Definitely get what you pay for though — it's way more complex and interesting, and the finish just lingers. Felt very fancy drinking it on a Friday night in my pyjamas.
Impressive for a dinner party
Served this at a dinner party and got loads of compliments. It's got a lovely brightness to it and the bubbles are super fine, not aggressive like some cheaper fizz. Everyone kept going back for more which says it all really.
Expected more honestly
The wine shop guy raved about this so maybe my expectations were too high. It's perfectly nice champagne, clean and well made with a decent finish. But for nearly £80 I wanted to be blown away and I just wasn't. My partner loved it though so maybe it's a me problem.
Solid grand cru champagne
Picked this up from a recommendation on a wine forum. It's well balanced with good acidity and genuine complexity — not just fizzy wine, if you know what I mean. Dock it a point because I think it needs another year or two to really shine. Still very enjoyable though.
