Besserat de Bellefon Brut Millesime 2008 / Gift Box
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV Besserat de BellefonGood not great for the money
I know this is rated highly but honestly at £90 I was expecting to be blown away and I was more like... quietly impressed? It's smooth, well-made, nice long finish. But I've had champagnes at £50 that excited me more. Probably one for collectors who appreciate the subtlety more than I do.
Solid champagne, nice gift box
Picked this up for an anniversary dinner. It's clean and crisp with good acidity, and there's a lot more depth than your average fizz. The gift box presentation is smart too. Only knocking a point off because I expected slightly more punch at this price point.
Lovely but would I rebuy at this price?
Got this as a gift box from my in-laws. It's genuinely excellent — really elegant and balanced, not heavy at all for something with so much going on. But £90 is a lot and I think you can get 80% of the way there for half the price. Still, very glad I tried it.
Birthday treat that delivered
Bought this for my wife's 40th and wow, it was special. Really complex stuff — you keep noticing new things as you drink it. Not cheap at nearly ninety quid but for a milestone birthday champagne you can't really complain.
Proper grown-up champagne
The guy at my local wine shop talked me into this and I'm glad he did. It's a 2008 vintage so it's had loads of time to develop and you can tell — nothing tastes rushed or simple. Poured it alongside a much more famous brand at dinner and everyone preferred this one.
Best champagne I've had in ages
A mate brought this to our New Year's dinner and I've been thinking about it since. The bubbles are super fine and it's got this depth that most champagnes just don't have. Immediately ordered two bottles for myself. The finish just goes on and on.
Wow this is elegant
Saw this on a restaurant wine list and decided to treat myself. So glad I did. It's not a showy champagne at all — more like everything is just perfectly in place. The balance between the fruit and the acidity is spot on. At 12.5% it's dangerously easy to drink too.
