Bernard Gripa Saint Joseph Rouge 2022
Red 14% ABV ABV Bernard GripaProper Northern Rhône stuff
Picked this up after the guy at my local wine shop recommended it. Really peppery and savoury with loads of dark fruit — proper Saint Joseph. It's not cheap at £42 but honestly it drinks like something more expensive. Had it with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder and it was perfect.
Solid choice for steak night
We had this with some ribeyes on a Saturday night and it was a good match. Nice and firm with plenty of dark fruit flavour. I wouldn't say it blew my mind but it's a reliable, well-made red. Probably a touch over what I'd normally spend on a weeknight bottle but it felt worth it for a treat.
Great dinner party wine
Brought this to a dinner party and it went down really well. It's got that bramble-y dark fruit thing going on and it's really smooth — no rough edges at all. A couple of mates who know more about wine than me were genuinely impressed. Would buy again for sure.
Gets better as you drink it
This is one of those wines that kind of sneaks up on you. First sip I thought yeah it's nice, dark fruity, peppery. But halfway through the bottle there were all these extra layers coming through. Give it some time to breathe and it really opens up.
My new favourite red
Saw this on a restaurant menu and ordered it on a whim — so glad I did. It's punchy at 14% but you'd never know, everything just works together. Went straight home and ordered a couple of bottles online. The savoury finish is absolutely lovely.
Good but not sure about the price
Got this as a birthday present and it's a nice wine, don't get me wrong. Dark berry flavours and a bit of a peppery kick which I liked. But for nearly £42 I'd probably want a bit more wow factor. Would happily drink it again if someone else was buying though!
