Benegas Single Vineyard Malbec 2021
Red 14% ABV ABV BenegasInteresting change from the usual
I normally just grab whatever Malbec is on offer at the supermarket so this was a step up for me. You can definitely taste the difference — there's a spicy thing on the finish that I really liked, and it feels more serious somehow. Good but not sure my wallet agrees on a regular basis.
Perfect with steak night
Had this with a ribeye on Saturday and it was brilliant. Really bold blackberry and plum flavours that stood up to the meat perfectly. The tannins are firm but smooth — not that drying thing you sometimes get. Worth the money.
Birthday treat that delivered
Got this as a birthday present from a friend who knows I like Argentine reds. It's a proper grown-up wine — dark fruit, good balance, spice on the finish. Shared it over a roast lamb and it was spot on.
Bit pricey for what it is
The wine shop guy recommended this and it's fine but I expected more for nearly £26. It's got that dark berry thing going on and the finish is nice enough, but I can get a perfectly good Malbec for fifteen quid. Would need to be on offer for me to rebuy.
Good not great
Decent Malbec with nice dark plum flavours and a clean finish. Had it with a pizza night and it worked well enough. I just think at this price point there's a lot of competition and this doesn't quite stand out from the crowd for me.
One of the best Malbecs I've tried
Saw this on a restaurant menu and liked it so much I tracked down a bottle to have at home. The fruit is really concentrated and clean, and there's a savoury edge to it that makes it more interesting than your average Malbec. At 14% it's got some weight to it but doesn't feel boozy at all. Absolutely loved it.
Really impressed with this one
Bought this for a dinner party and it went down a treat. Loads of dark fruit flavour but not sweet or jammy at all, which I appreciated. Definitely one I'd buy again at around £25.
Solid Malbec, nothing flashy
Nice enough wine. Dark plummy flavours and a decent structure to it. I've had cheaper Malbecs that I've enjoyed just as much though, so not sure I'd pay £25 again unless it was a special occasion.
