First Impressions

Ayala Perle Grand Cru 2012 Champagne arrives at £105.00, and at this price point, expectations are rightly elevated. 75cl / 12% - The 2012 La Perle Grand Cru Champagne from Ayala is made with a blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir grapes, and matured on the lees for eight years before.

France's winemaking heritage needs no introduction, but the best producers continue to find new ways to express their terroir while honouring centuries of tradition. Ayala is a name worth knowing in this context.

On the Nose and Palate

The nose offers delicate nose of white peach, fresh bread, and a hint of chalk and lemon curd. Moving to the palate, the wine is luxurious mousse delivering ripe fruit, patisserie notes, and a long saline finish. The finish is lengthy and complex, showing pastry, stone fruit, and a refreshing chalky bite.

Food Pairing and Serving

Equally at home as an aperitif or alongside seafood, sushi, or delicate canapés. Serve at 8-10°C in proper flutes or, better yet, white wine glasses to appreciate the full bouquet.

The Verdict

Ayala Perle Grand Cru 2012 Champagne earns a well-deserved 7 out of 10. This is a very good champagne that delivers Pinot Noir with genuine conviction and craft. At £105.00, this sits in premium territory, and it delivers the quality to match. Whether you are building a cellar or simply looking for something excellent to drink tonight, this bottle earns its place.

Omar Diallo VIPsAllowed - Classy stuff for a special dinner
7/10

The guy at our local wine shop recommended this when I said we were doing a nice meal at home. It's got this really interesting bread-like quality to it, almost like pastry, with ripe stone fruit underneath. Went brilliantly with the fish course. Would buy again if I had the excuse.

Haruki Sato VIPsAllowed - Seriously impressive champagne
8/10

Saw this on a restaurant wine list and looked it up later to buy a bottle for home. The Pinot Noir really comes through — it's got proper weight and richness compared to lighter champagnes. That salty finish at the end is something else, keeps you coming back for another sip. My wife and I finished the bottle embarrassingly fast.

Grace Kim VIPsAllowed - Nice but not £105 nice
6/10

Tried this at a friend's dinner party and it was good, don't get me wrong. Lovely lemony freshness and I liked the chalky dry finish. But honestly for over a hundred quid I expected to be blown away and I wasn't — I've had non-vintage champagnes at half the price that I enjoyed just as much.

Derek Chang VIPsAllowed - Birthday treat that delivered
8/10

Got this as a birthday present to myself because I figured turning 40 deserves proper champagne. Really glad I did — there's this gorgeous peachy thing going on with a bready warmth that made it feel properly special. The bubbles are super fine and elegant, not like the fizzy stuff you get from supermarket prosecco. At £105 it's not cheap but for a milestone it felt worth it.
