Ayala Brut Majeur Champagne / Gift Box
Champagne 12.5% ABV ABV AyalaReally impressed for the price
Bought this as a gift for my sister's birthday (hence the gift box) and she opened it that night so I got to try some too. Really bright and fresh with a lovely crisp finish that kept me going back for more. For under £35 this is genuinely good Champagne — not just "good for the price" but actually good.
Nice but expected more
The wine shop guy recommended this as a step up from supermarket fizz and yeah it is better, but at £33.75 I was hoping to be a bit more wowed. It's clean and balanced with decent fruit but I've had Crémants at half the price that gave me more excitement. The gift box is a nice touch though.
My new go-to Champagne
Had this at a restaurant a few months ago and tracked it down online. There's a real depth to it that unfolds the longer it sits in the glass — layers of fruit and this lovely precise acidity that keeps everything fresh. Ayala don't get enough attention compared to the big houses but they're doing seriously good work here.
Solid choice for a dinner party
Picked up a couple of bottles for a dinner party and everyone enjoyed it. It's got a nice chalky mineral thing going on and the bubbles are fine and elegant rather than aggressive. Not the most exciting Champagne I've ever had but it's reliable and well-made. Would buy again.
