Aldo Viola Krimiso Cataratto 2019
Red 14% ABV ABV Aldo ViolaReally impressed with this one
Picked this up from my local wine shop on a whim and honestly glad I did. There's a lot going on — every time I went back to the glass I noticed something different. The alcohol is 14% but you'd never know it, goes down dangerously easy. Had it with a slow-cooked lamb shoulder and it was perfect.
Great dinner party wine
Bought this for a dinner party and it went down really well — a couple of friends who know their wine were genuinely curious about it. Lovely nose on it, really expressive without being over the top. Would buy again for a special occasion but it's not an everyday bottle at that price.
Aldo Viola doesn't miss
I've had a few Aldo Viola wines now and this Krimiso is right up there. Layers and layers of flavour that keep building, and the balance is spot on. Sicilian wines like this are seriously underrated. Worth the £34 if you want something a bit different.
Nice but steep price
Got this as part of a mixed case and it's decent enough. Good depth and the finish hangs around nicely, but at nearly £34 a bottle I expected to be blown away and I wasn't quite. I'd drink it again happily if someone else was buying.
Solid Italian red
The guy at my wine shop recommended this and said to give it 20 mins to open up — he was right. Started a bit closed off but then it really came alive. Clean finish that keeps you going back for more. Not cheap but it's well made stuff.
