Adrien Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Cote de Lechet 2023
Red 14% ABV ABV Adrien DefaixEasily the best bottle I've opened this month
Saw this on a list at a restaurant, looked it up and ordered a bottle online. So glad I did. The finish just goes on and on — citrus and mineral notes that linger without being heavy. Already ordered another couple of bottles to have on hand.
Proper grown-up wine
The guy at my local wine shop recommended this and he wasn't wrong. It's got this lovely stony, flinty thing going on with lemon and peach underneath. Not a wine you just knock back — you actually want to sit with it and pay attention. Really well made.
Nice but needs time maybe?
Had this at a friend's dinner party and thought it was good but felt like it was holding back a bit. The acidity is quite firm and the fruit hasn't really opened up yet. Might be one to stick in the cupboard for a year or two? Decent wine though, just not sure it's ready.
Stunning Chablis, worth every penny
Bought this for my wife's birthday dinner and we were both blown away. Really crisp and minerally with lovely citrus notes that kept us going back for more. At £40 it's not cheap but for a Premier Cru Chablis it's actually pretty fair. We paired it with roast chicken and it was perfect.
Bit pricey for a midweek drink
It's a solid Chablis, no question. Nice lemony freshness and that classic mineral backbone. But at nearly £40 I'd save it for a special occasion rather than cracking it open on a Tuesday. For everyday drinking there are cheaper options that get you 80% of the way there.
Great mineral Chablis
I'm a sucker for Chablis and this one delivers. Really clean citrus and stone fruit with that chalky mineral quality you want from Côte de Léchet. 14% is quite punchy but honestly you wouldn't know it — carries it really well. Had it with fish pie on a Friday night, lovely stuff.
