AA Badenhorst White Blend 2022
White 12% ABV ABV AA BadenhorstSouth African whites are so underrated
Saw this on a wine list and thought I'd try something different. So glad I did. There's real depth and complexity here, it unfolds in layers as you drink it. The acidity keeps everything fresh and balanced. Badenhorst clearly knows what they're doing. Went perfectly with some grilled fish tacos.
Really nice white for a Saturday night
Picked this up from our local wine shop on the guy's recommendation. Really expressive nose, loads going on in the glass — kept sniffing it like a weirdo before every sip. Great acidity and layers of flavour that kept things interesting through a whole roast chicken dinner. Would definitely buy again.
Good but not £33 good
It's a solid white, don't get me wrong. Nice and bright with good structure and a clean finish. But for £33.50 I expected to be a bit more blown away? I've had South African whites at half the price that got close to this. Would order it at a restaurant but probably won't rebuy for home.
Brought this to a dinner party
Grabbed this as a "nice bottle" for my mate's birthday dinner and it went down well. Everyone commented on how aromatic it was. At 12% ABV it's not too heavy either which was perfect since we were already a few drinks in. The finish lingers just enough to make you want more.
Decent everyday-ish splurge
Not exactly an everyday wine at that price but I treated myself. It's well made — nothing over the top, just clean and balanced with bright fruit and a finish that hangs around nicely. Probably a 7 for me, maybe an 8 on the right evening. Would pair it with a simple pasta or lighter dishes.
